Meet the Artists

Supermrin

Supermrin creates sculptures and installations from foraged trees and a unique bioplastic synthesized from grasses. Her practice integrates biophilosophy, architecture, decolonial theory, material science, and speculative fiction. Her ongoing project, FIELD, considers the widespread use of engineered lawn grasses as an operative metaphor for a capitalist, colonial mindset and the ecological damage it precipitates. FIELD has been featured in the 2024 Lund Humphries publication, "Towards Another Architecture: New Visions for the 21st Century," edited by Owen Hopkins, a critical rethinking of Le Corbusier’s legacy in the global south in the face of climate change.

Supermrin’s work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Art Commission Galleries, San Francisco; Studio 9D, Manhattan; Château de Vaudijon, Switzerland; the Italian Virtual Pavilion, Venice Biennale for Architecture 2021; Special Projects at Untitled Art Fair, Miami; Contemporary Art Center, Cincinnati; Tactile Bosch, Wales; and lower_cavity, Holyoke. Her recent exhibition "Rodin Response: FIELD Family Secrets," curated by Dr. Peter Bell at the Cincinnati Art Museum, engages with Auguste Rodin’s legacy and the intertwined histories of colonialism and modernism. Another notable exhibition, "Aliens: Colonial Narratives through Plant Migration and Bio-Art," curated by Isabella Indolfi at PS122 Gallery, NYC, explores the politics of land and nature through the language of plants.

Supermrin has received grants from the Foundation for Contemporary Art, Franklin Furnace Fund, New York Foundation for the Arts, and Ohio Arts Council. Currently, Supermrin serves as Area Head for Interdisciplinary Practices at the School of Art, University of Cincinnati, and is a fellow at Genspace, the pioneering community biology lab in Brooklyn.
